A Legacy Built on
Human Dignity
Founded in 2013 by the late Sri JP Agarwal, the Human Development and Education Trust began its journey in a humble rented facility in Vadodara. The core mission was to bridge the educational divide for children living in urban slums through our flagship initiative, the Paathshala.
For nine transformative years, the Trust provided free, high-quality coaching to an average of 60 students annually (Class 1 to 9), ensuring financial hardship never led to a child leaving school. Beyond academics, students received nutrition, stationery, and cultural engagement.
Today, the Trust stands at a historic pivot — evolving its mission into an intergenerational care ecosystem where those educated youth now serve our senior citizens.
"We do not just provide relief; we create social leaders."

They were the students.
Now they are the teachers.
The children in the front row are today's Paathshala students. Standing behind them — the eight young adults who sat in those same seats over a decade ago.
The Paathshala
Story
In 2013, the Human Development & Education Trust opened a simple rented room in an urban neighbourhood of Vadodara. They called it Paathshala — and invited children from nearby slum communities to come and learn, free of charge.
For nearly a decade, those children came. They received coaching from Class 1 through 9, had their school fees paid, their books provided, their meals looked after. They performed in cultural events. They formed friendships that would last a lifetime.
Then the pandemic came. In 2022, Paathshala paused. But when the doors reopened — in a new rented building in the same area — something extraordinary had happened.
Eight of those original child students, now young adults, had returned. Not as students — but as teachers. They chose to give back the very gift they had received.
"The children who joined in 2013 are now the ones shaping the next generation — proof that Human Development is both scalable and self-sustaining."

Now Standing as Teachers.
When Paathshala reopened after the pandemic, eight of its original child students — now grown young adults — walked back through the door not to learn, but to teach. They stand behind today's students, literally and figuratively. This is the Trust's most powerful proof: that investing in a child creates a lifelong giver, not just a receiver.

Teaching Today.
In 2018–19, four Paathshala students were personally recognised and presented with appreciation awards by MJF Lion Ramesh Bhai Sah, District Governor, Lions District 3232F1 — a moment that celebrated not just academic effort, but the extraordinary potential these children carried within them.
Years later, that belief has been repaid in full. Those same four children — now grown adults — have returned to Paathshala. Today they stand at the front of the classroom, passing on the gift of education to the next generation of children who sit where they once sat.
